This guide describes how to create a new project site in SharePoint 2013. Project sites are account specific workspaces used to store uncontrolled, working documents. Each project site has a document library which has no document control. This ensures that multiple files can easily be uploaded and worked on.

Creating a new project site

1. Click the Settings icon located at the top right of SharePoint , then choose Site Contents from the drop-down menu that has appeared.

2. Now click the New Subsite button located below the Subsites header near the bottom of the page.

3. Enter the Title and Description for your new Subsite followed by the web site address(which shouldn't contain spaces).

4. Choose the Template that will be used for the new subsite, in this case this will be Project Site.

5. Select the required permissions for your new Project Site, in most cases the defaults will be enough, then click Create.

6. Your new site will take a moment or two to be created, in the mean time SharePoint will tell you it is being created.

7. Your new Project Site is now created, however there are a few things that you may want to do before putting the new subsite into general use, I will outline what you might want to do below.

You will most likely want to change the default navigation, this can be done manually by clicking EDIT LINKS below the navigation, or it can be done by clicking the Settings Icon at the top-right followed by Site Settings then clicking Navigation which is located under the Look and Feel section.

The default search bar in the new subsite will only search pages below the current site, therefore you may want to change the settings so that they search globally instead, this can actually be done quite easily by following the steps outlined below.

  1. Click the Settings icon again followed by Site Settings.

  2. Click Search Settings located in the Search section.

  3. In the Search Center URL field, enter /Search/Pages.

  4. in the Results page URL field, enter /search/Pages/results.aspx.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Done.
